DOGMAS
These are the detailed framework behind every decision we make. A modern manual for being unmistakably Compass.
There are 10 in total, living in our Field Guide, but a few worth knowing from day one:
It Is Always Day 1 — as an underdog, we live in start-up mode. We're happy being scrappy.
Be Radically Honest — courageously candid conversations and direct feedback are key to our culture and our future.
Do Stuff — we need to do stuff, not talk about stuff. Action delivers results.
Sweat The Small Stuff — the best teams fight for the small things every day, because if the small things slide, the business falls apart.
Ask your designated Senior Crew Leader for the full 'Field Guide To Be More Compass'.
VALUES
We can't cover every case, but we trust you to use your best judgement, guided by our Company Values: Compass can't write a policy for every situation. When you're unsure, ask: — don't do it. Beyond that: use the Dogmas, and ask for help early. Nothing is ever too much for our Crew.
Stay Humble — no egos. Always learning, always improving. Feedback is fuel. We care about what works, not who's right.
Progress, Not Perfection — competence comes from showing up daily and playing the long game. Trust and results are built over time.
Don't Sugarcoat It — say it straight, own it fully. No fluff, no excuses. Problems don't get passed — they get solved.
Do the Boring Work — success isn't flashy. It's built on discipline and repetition. Show up, put in the reps, and do what others won't.
Here's a crash course into some common phrases we use at Compass. We call our people Crew, never staff or team.
Staff sounds like clocking in and out, team sounds like corporate wallpaper. Crew is what it actually is:
People who show up for each other, in all weather, for something bigger than any one of us.
The children and families we work with are our Tribe. Not "service users," not "customers." They're the reason Compass exists.
You won't find "Manager," "Supervisor," or "Line Report" anywhere in this handbook either.
Those words describe control. Ours describe contribution. If you catch corporate language creeping into anything client-facing or internal, pass us the sick bucket.
